The Geography Department at SJHN aims to enable all students to flourish through an engaging, ambitious and knowledge-rich curriculum that inspires curiosity about the world and the complex human and physical processes that shape it. Rooted in our Catholic mission and commitment to developing Christ-centred pilgrims of hope, we nurture a thirst for knowledge by exploring diverse places, environments and societies, helping students to understand both the opportunities and challenges facing our rapidly changing world. Through the study of global challenges and the dynamic interactions between people and environments, students develop questioning minds, critically analysing geographical issues and considering the interconnections between people, places and environments. Geography encourages students to develop kind hearts by fostering empathy, cultural understanding and an appreciation of the experiences of communities across the globe. Through investigating inequality, environmental stewardship and global responsibility, students cultivate a hunger for justice, recognising their role in promoting a more sustainable and equitable future. By developing their skills in enquiry, analysis, interpretation and decision-making, students become confident geographers who can evaluate evidence, think independently and respond thoughtfully to contemporary issues. By leaving SJHN as knowledgeable, aspiring activists, enthusiastic explorers and diligent decision-makers. Students are equipped to engage with the wider world as responsible global citizens advocating for sustainability as stewards of God's creation.

Curriculum Overviews

Due to curriculum changes, the new curriculum map will be effective from the 2022-2023 academic year for KS3 (Y7/Y8/Y9) groups. However, to avoid a repetition of content, KS4 (Year 10 & 11) will follow the old curriculum map until their GCSES are complete (Y10: 2024. Y11: 2023)
