Home Learning 

Following our school home learning policy, Home learning will be set via our online learning platforms once a week for all classes. We use online programmes such as Seneca to support and aid learning.

Equipment and resources

Students should have a pencil case with them every lesson.  Pencil cases should include: black/blue pens, highlighters, a pencil, a ruler and colours (optional).

At KS4, students will also be given revision guides to look after to support with GCSE.

department Praise AND RECOGNITION

At St John Henry Newman, we are proud to celebrate pupils who embody our mission and values through their learning and conduct in Religious Education. We recognise students who demonstrate kind hearts, questioning minds, a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to justice, encouraging them to become positive role models within our school community. Each half term, RE teachers nominate one pupil from every class for the “Leading the Way” award. This recognises those who consistently demonstrate our ASPIRE values of Achievement, Service, Peace, Integrity and Excellence through their effort, engagement, attitude to learning and contributions in lessons. Award winners receive a praise postcard home, a sweet treat and ASPIRE points in recognition of their achievement.

We also celebrate excellence through two additional initiatives. Our “Magic Star” award recognises pupils who consistently meet every expectation in RE by arriving prepared, participating fully, producing high-quality work, demonstrating exemplary behaviour and serving as positive role models. In addition, our “I Heard a Whisper” initiative highlights students who have impressed staff through their kindness, hard work, thoughtful contributions or outstanding behaviour. Pupils recognised through either initiative receive a postcard home, a prize and ASPIRE points. Together, these awards help foster a culture of encouragement, recognition and excellence, inspiring every pupil to embrace the ASPIRE values, grow in faith and understanding, and make a positive difference in the world around them.

Careers in re

We are very proud of the achievements of our students and have high aspirations for their Post 16 and 18 destinations. Students who studied RE left CNCS in 2026, went on to some of the following destinations:

  • Child Nursing at Coventry University 
  • History and Politics at Salford University
  • Criminology at Coventry University
  • Psychology at Aston University
  • Data information and society at UCL
  • Digital Media and Communications at University of Birmingham
  • Law at University of Warwick, University of Birmingham and Manchester Metropolitan
