Curriculum Intent

The Physical Education Department at SJHN aims to enable all students to flourish through an inclusive, ambitious and engaging curriculum that promotes physical wellbeing, personal development and a lifelong enjoyment of sport and physical activity. Rooted in our Catholic mission and commitment to developing Christ-centred pilgrims of hope, we nurture kind hearts through teamwork, respect, sportsmanship and an appreciation of the value of every individual. Through participation in a broad range of sports and physical activities, students develop a thirst for knowledge about health, fitness, performance and the importance of leading active lifestyles. We foster questioning minds by encouraging students to analyse performance, solve problems, make informed decisions and reflect on their own progress as performers, leaders and teammates. Through opportunities to lead, officiate, coach, and collaborate, students build confidence, resilience, and responsibility. They also develop a hunger for justice through fair play, integrity, inclusion, and respect for others.  Through our curriculum, students leave SJHN as physically literate, confident, and reflective young people, equipped with the skills, character, and motivation to lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives.
